Shellsburg American Legion Breakfast Every Saturday, 8-10 a.m.

The Shellsburg American Legion Saturday morning breakfast is held each Saturday. The hours are 8 - 10 am. We ask people to social distant at the tables (families of course can sit together) and wear masks if you choose.Never forget that at every minute of every day, there are members of our Armed Forces in harms way and we need to pray for their safety and return home soonWe appreciate the past support for all the community does for the American Legion.

Library to offer STEM program "Ocean Expedition"

The Vinton Public Library will be offering a STEM program entitled, Ocean Expedition. The program is provided by the National 4-H Council and Bayer. For more than 100 years, Bayer and 4‑H have instilled the importance of science in life and careers. Together, they have teamed up to deliver Science Matters, a multi-faceted program to foster a love of scientific exploration in students across urban and rural areas around the country.

Eastern Iowa Honor Flight announces flight to Washington D.C. Sept. 20

 On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight will launch Flight #44. The mission of this non-profit organization is to provide veterans with a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to visit monuments and memorials built in honor of their service and sacrifice. Since the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight began operations in 2009, 43 flights have transported 3,879 veterans, along with their guardians to Washington, DC.

CENTER POINT CEMETERY WALK ON SUNDAY SEPT. 18

The Center Point Historical Society’s annual Cemetery Walk will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, at the Center Point Cemetery.Costumed portrayers will include a Marion historian, a high school freshman playing her great-great-great-great aunt, and old hands actors in the 11-year-old fundraising event.Cemetery Walk admission is $5.

Vinton Lutheran Home Ice Cream Social September 1st from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Monarch Tagging Event Happening This Week

Come learn about Monarch butterflies and contribute to Monarch science. We will get a chance to catch Monarch butterflies and tag them for monitoring and test their health. Hoefle-Dulin Recreation Area Re-Opening

Join Benton County Conservation on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Hoefle-Dulin Recreation Area for the Re-Opening of the area. The park is located at 5901 27th Ave., Vinton, Iowa.You will be able to observe the completed shoreline stabilization project, other park improvements and future park plans! Grand Opening of New Wildlife Area September 15

Benton County Conservation would like to invite the public to the Grand Opening of the Edna Shane Fen and Wildlife Area located at the 2053 54th St., Mt. Auburn, Iowa. The event will be from 5-7:00 p.m.There will be an Open House, food for purchase by Beast and Bird, samples by Benton County Brewing Company. Proceeds go to the Benton County Conservation Foundation.
